Sale Pen Rules
1) Sales pens/sale areas are to be manned by officially appointed sales stewards.
2) Each sale cavy must be provided with suitable food for the day, including juicy vegetables such as cucumber, celery etc and a handful of hay. A water bottle may also be provided (for Agricultural shows this is usually compulsory).
3) The club should provide an advice/information sheet on care of cavies for all purchasers.
4) The vendor should supply their contact details to be given to the purchaser at time of sale. A suitable box should also be provided for each cavy that is sold.
5) The sale stock stewards must closely examine each animal to make sure it is quite fit. Cavies showing signs of illness, fungal or parasitic infections, should be refused. Cavies infested with running lice and those suspected of being pregnant should also be refused.
6) Undersized cavies should be refused. The NCC & SCC set a minimum sale weight of 400g (approx 14 oz). For sale cavies should be at least 8 weeks old.
7) Sales pens are to contain cavies of the same sex. A maximum of 3 babies (u/5mths), 2 intermediates (5/8mths) or 1 adult will be allowed in each pen. Breeding pairs should not be housed together in same pen.
8) The host club should consider introducing a minimum price to deter impulse buying. As this is largely for the general public, the club may like to add a rider that fanciers are free to negotiate a price with the seller. "Free to a good home" should be discouraged for the same reason.
9) Skinnies and Giants (Cuy) are not permitted within the show hall and must not be offered for sale at any NCC or SCC shows.
10) No cavies to be sold to anyone who is under the age of 16 years or appears to be under the age of 16 unless accompanied by an adult.
